OLI RAISES THE FLAGS
PRE-PUBLICITY ARTICLE |
The
Show really started on the Sunday 27th which was a set up day.
Darrell Oli Jennie and Jo set off in two cars to transport such items as poles,
tent, gazebo, chairs, banner and frame, flag banners and tables as these
would not fit in the Flying 8 tourer which Darrell and Oli together with
their food and bedding would be travelling down in on the Monday. Arriving
on the Monday at about 11 am work started as the others began to arrive. By
late afternoon all six of the cars that would be there all week had checked
in. Oli
volunteered to be hoisted up one of the showground’s flag poles to
attach the start of the bunting. |
TIME TO THINK OUT THE BEST POSITION OF
THE STALL
TUCKED UP FOR THE NIGHT IN CASE OF
OVERNIGHT RAIN THE SIX CARS THAT REMAINED ON SITE ALL
WEEK. THE ONLY NIGHT IT RAINED WAS THE FIRST
NIGHT WHEN WE DISCOVERED THAT GAZEBOS LEAK. |

SLEEPING OVERNIGHT FOR SECURITY IN AN
IGLOO TENT |
The
cars were covered for the night as heavy rain was forecast. While Geoff and
Sharon retired to their caravan on the camp site, and the others went home,
Oli and Darrell prepared to sleep in the igloo inside the gazebo. When
it rained it came straight through the gazebo but luckily not the igloo. Waking
up the first show day morning at 6.am the two had a chance to try the showers
onsite and sit down to a light breakfast. |
UNFORTUNATELY WE HAD DUCKS AND GEESE ON
ONE SIDE AND NOT FAR AWAY NOISY SHEEP AND CHICKENS INCLUDING A COCKERAL |

1949 STANDARD TRIUMPH ROADSTER (COLIN
OLIVER) |
Well
before 8 am the two Roadsters and the Renoun pulled in to complete the nine
for the first day. As
soon as the show opened it became obvious that it was going to be dry, hot
and crowded. By late afternoon the toy raffle had sold every last ticket. |

THE TOY RAFFLE WAS A SELL OUT ON DAY ONE. ALL THE TOYS HAD BEEN DONATED |
As
the show closed for day one the three visiting Triumph Standards departed as
did the other members after they had helped secured the remaining six
cars’ covers. That
evening Darrell & Oli took advantage of the Stockman’s’
restaurant in an adjacent marquee. They offered first class BBQ meals (As
much as you liked) for six pounds. That night was spent being kept awake by
sheep, and other local animals. |

Day
two of the show dawned and well before 8 am Val & Bob Richardson arrived
for the day in their During
the day we heard from lots of people who remembered one way or other standard
cars in the family. By far the nicest surprise was the visit to the stand by
Nigel Maudslay the Grandson of the founder of the Standard Motor Club, who
had brought his family albums for us to look at. He
offered to have copies done of any photos for the club; all we had to do was
pop a paste it tag next to them. He
kindly agreed to be photographed in the During
the show other members showed up and gave us a chance to wander around the
vast show. Soon
another day was over and Val & Bob departed home Again
the rest of us enjoyed the Meal at the Stockman’s BBQ. |

MEMBERS TAKING A WELL EARNED BREAK |
. That
night the two members who slept on site settled down to watch DVDs as the
show organisers had kindly provided us with mains electricity Next
morning was the last day of the show and we all enjoyed another dry day. During
the day rain clouds loomed overhead. |
VAL AND BOB DEPART AT THE END OF DAY TWO |
|
LAST NIGHT AND ALL CLOSED DOWN |
Sadly
the end of the end of the show arrived and, it was time to break camp and say
our good byes The
first to leave was Brian in his Flying 8. Only just as we finally drove off
did it start to rain a bit. We
would like to thank the Chief Executive and his colleagues for kindly
providing us with the site and thus the chance to FLY
